Project Team Includes Experts from United States, UK
and Russia
Overland Park, Kan. (July 08, 2008) -- Black & Veatch, a leading global
engineering, consulting and construction company, announced today it is
conducting an environmental and social impact assessment for a potential
50-megawatt (MW) wind farm development in Mongolia.
The project team includes experts from the company’s Russia, UK and United
States office locations who specialize in environmental assessment, wind energy
and geographical information systems.
“The site is relatively uninhabited with the exception of about a dozen
nomadic families who use the land on a seasonal basis,” said Jack Mozingo,
Black & Veatch Project Manager. “As part of the assessment, we have visited
with the families about the possibility of a wind farm development in the area.
In addition, we are documenting any wildlife presence and migration in the
region.”
The study will be completed this year and is funded by the European Bank for
Reconstruction and Development, and the International Finance Corporation. The
potential 50-MW wind farm site is approximately 40 miles from Ulaanbaatar, the
capital and largest city in Mongolia, with about 1 million residents.
“Wind energy can be a sustainable source of renewable and carbon-free power
for the people of Mongolia,” said Bill Van Dyke, President of the Federal
Services Division of Black & Veatch, “This project represents how Black
& Veatch is able to draw expertise from professionals throughout its global
workforce to provide reliable solutions to our clients’ most complex
challenges.”
Black & Veatch professionals from its federal services, energy and water
business lines are involved in various aspects of the project.
